New Haven Texas Is Prepared for Summer

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

June 22, 2021, Austin Texas – New Haven Texas – ten assisted living and dementia care communities throughout Texas – understands that planning for weather changes involves thoughtful year-round planning to be able to respond and support residents quickly during an anticipated heat wave and power outages.

New Haven’s primary goal during any power outage is to ensure the ongoing safety of its residents, while striving to maintain high-quality care and services.  The New Haven team has developed guidelines based on local and state authorities who all have extensive experience with power outages.  The New Haven team has then built upon these guidelines to implement well-considered plans to determine how the teams will respond to specific situations.

Encountering the latest natural disaster, the winter freeze storm of February 2021, New Haven communities suffered unexpected flood damage.  Community leaders immediately referred to their New Haven Disaster and Emergency Manual, which outlines very specific instructions on how to respond to disasters and emergency situations to keep residents safe.    New Haven has a multiple-day supply of prescription medications, medical supplies, food, and drinking water to ensure continuity of care so residents can continue with little or no interruption.

Just as all Texans experienced intermittent power outages during the winter storm,it is possible there will be similar outages if there is a prolonged heat wave. Officials at ERCOT, which manages the Texas power grid,  has said it “appears unlikely” that the ERCOT grid would need to implement outages, asit did in February, to reduce strain on the grid. However, they warned that Texans could experience electricity outages this summer if the state sees a severe heat wave or drought that drives up demand for power.

New Haven understands that during any periods of extreme weather, nothing could be worse than losing communication with a loved one.  New Haven uses an automated message service to keep families updated on any information that may affect their loved one.  The messaging service provides families with peace of mind so they stay informed of important information and developments during a natural disaster.

New Haven Dementia Care serves seniors with dementia, offering specialized dementia care programs where there have been significant benefits derived by the residents being able to engage and socialize versus the alternative – being at home alone, isolated, and safety at risk during a natural disaster.
