The Memory Care services we provide at New Haven are based on one strongly held philosophy: a full and vibrant life is possible for seniors with memory loss. Not only is a vibrant life possible: it’s a must.
We’ve designed our small, intimate communities to provide feelings of safety and security for our residents. Connectedness, fun, and friendship are also important. We believe in the inherent dignity of each individual who comes to live with us. That includes those suffering from Alzheimer’s or other forms of dementia. We want each senior to experience community life as fully as he or she can.
Here’s how we create a positive memory care experience for our residents:
We give our staff ongoing training in memory care.
This is the primary focus of their continuing education once they’re hired. Our staff members are experienced—they’re used to seeing common behaviors of those with memory loss and they know the best and most compassionate way to deal with those behaviors. They’re also up to date on the latest techniques for stimulating memory and cognitive function.
We offer structured programs to improve thinking and memory.
Our memory programs were created not just to improve cognitive function, but to promote fun and friendship. We also offer modern techniques like aromatherapy and Music and Memory that help stimulate memories and thinking processes.
Our buildings are easy to navigate and offer reassuring visual cues for residents.
Our communities were designed with memory care in mind. All suites are located around a central kitchen, with no long hallways between where folks can get lost. We use guideposts to help seniors orient themselves and feel secure.
We tailor our care to the needs of our seniors with memory loss.
We’re able to do this because of our small size. This means we have more staff members available per resident than many senior care communities.
